Our day begins with a visit to the old fishing village of Taqah, famous for its old traditional Dhofari Houses and for its artisanal Dried Sardines manifcatures. Then we visit the century old Taqah Castle, the former official residence of the Wali (the Governor) of the region where we will get a wide idea about the rich history of the region.
We will continue our trip to the ruins of the ancient city of Sumharam (Khor Rohri) which was the easternmost outpost of the Hadramawt Kingdom on the old incense route between the Mediterranean Sea, Persian Gulf and India. Khor Rohri was an important coastal city, a stragic commercial port of the region of Dhofar, and one of the major trading cities with frankincense that have been the hub and harbor for the shipping of Frankincense (a UNESCO World Heritage site). A picturesque drive then leads us to Mirbat, the ancient capital of Dhofar where the Frankincense trail and trade has begun once upon time. We will stroll through the streets lined with old Omani houses and visit for a short photo stop the twin-domed Bin Ali's Tomb a classic example of medieval architecture.
On the way back, we will explore the ever green Wadi Derbat for a relaxing stroll along the Wadi bed, surrounded by herds of Camels, Goats and Cattle. During the Khareef season (autumn/monsoon period), visitors could also witness an almost 100m natural Waterfall, spreading its beautifull white and transparent water tresses into numerous lakes and lush green vegetation. Return then to the hotel .
